The redevelopment of La Marina del Prat Vermell district is the latest major urban transformation project in the city of Barcelona.

This new residential area geographically borders Passeig de la Zona Franca, L’Hospitalet, the port and  Fira. This industrial area will be made totally urban with the construction of private and subsidised housing, facilities and green areas, and the arrival of the metro’s line 9.

750,000 m2 will become urbanised, an area equivalent to more than forty blocks of Barcelona’s Eixample district. It will offer more than 11,000 new homes, 38% for private housing and 35% for subsidised housing, amounting to housing for 30,000 people.

The Consorci has at its disposal 160,000 square feet of floor area throughout the area, mainly in sector 14, the section closest to the coastal ring road. The company also has a presence in sectors 6, 8, 10, 12 and 13. The urban improvement plan of Sector 14, whose majority owner is El Consorci, has been definitively approved.

The planning and management schedules for sector 10, where El Consorci has a minority presence, have also been granted final approval. The development works began in 2012 and continued throughout 2013. In April of that same year, the construction of the first building of flats was completed. These are owned by the Compensation Board for sector 10 and is built to re-house people affected by the redevelopment project.

In the course of 2014, El Consorci worked on the final design of the first building for subsidised fixed-price housing for plot No. 13 in sector 10. The public tender for this construction contract was issued at the end of the year. Construction works began during the second quarter of 2015 and are expected to take place over approximately 18 months.
