Conference Cristina Gallach

4 de March de 2019

A total of 50 companies attended a conference by Cristina Gallach, High Commissioner of the 2030 Agenda, on the shared challenge of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) on the Free Zone Industrial Estate.

Gallach talked about the objectives that have been set by the United Nations to move towards a more equal, fair and sustainable society with a time horizon of 2030 at the event. Special State Delegate in the Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona Pere Navarro said that he hoped that the Free Zone Industrial Estate would be “the best in the world” and a model for public-private collaboration, adding that “like the Consorci itself, a space for the public, social and economic consensus, because the aim is to create shared wealth”.

The High Commissioner has encouraged entrepreneurs to work on the 17 objectives for the “4 Ps”: Person, Planet, Prosperity and Peace, saying that this is “a unique opportunity, because never before have goals for a sustainable, inclusive world been put down on paper for generations to come”, adding that today “sustainability is no longer optional, rather a mandatory obligation for success and business reputation”.

To end the conference and networking session, Gallach and a group of entrepreneurs from the industrial estate toured the 3DFactory printing hub at the Corsorci’s corporate building, which was opened yesterday by the minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, Pedro Duque.

AGENDA 2030 AND THE SDG

On 25 September 2015, 193 countries, one of them Spain, committed to comply with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) defined by the United Nations (UN) for 2030.

The 17 objectives are a road map, which, through the goals, aim to care for the planet and sustainable development, while building an equal society, which is more inclusive and fairer every day, people-centric and leaves no-one behind.

Transformation into a more equal society, therefore, is a task that involves all citizens, companies, associations and governments, through small actions and with an open attitude to transformation to achieve the 17 sustainable development goals as a legacy for generations to come.

The Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona through its Corporate Social Responsibility policy, has signed the Global Compact (see link) the purpose of which is to seek institutional and corporate compliance with the SDG. It also seeks to create a new zero-waste industrial culture and has obtained EMAS 2009 and ISO 14001 certifications for its energy saving policies, good practices and environmental awareness.
