The Consorci calls on companies in the Free Trade Zone to speed up compliance with the sustainable development goals (sdg)

CZFB SDG challenges

6 de February de 2019

The Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona (CZFB) is calling upon the companies on the industrial estate to attend a meeting on 12 February and to undertake to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SGD) in their own areas, a commitment that will start with a conference courtesy of the High Commissioner for the Agenda 2030, Cristina Gallach and a business survey about this shared commitment.

Cristina Gallach will deliver her speech at 16.00 on 12 February in the CZFB auditorium. She will talk about the goals set by the United Nations to achieve a more equitable, fairer and more sustainable society by 2030, an occasion during which she will discuss the subject with Special Delegate of the State in the Consorci Pere Navarro. There will also be a question and answer session for entrepreneurs on the industrial estate.

The CZFB sent out questionnaires to companies on the industrial estate with the invitations in order to obtain a better idea of the level of compliance and implementation of these companies with the Sustainable Development Goals.

The industrial ecosystem is particularly sensitive to objectives linked to energy consumption, water and resources, sustainable transport and the trend towards zero waste and environmentally responsible production.

The meeting will also be an opportunity for representatives of the companies on the industrial estate to visit the new additive printing hub – 3DFactory Incubator – once the SDGs have been dealt with. Coincidentally, the high technology centre is scheduled to be officially opened on the previous day by Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities Pedro Duque

THE AGENDA 2030 AND THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

On 25 September 2015, a total of 193 countries, among them Spain, committed to comply with 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) defined by the United Nations by the year 2030.

These 17 goals are meant to serve as a road map to guide the world towards caring for the planet through sustainable development, while striving for a more egalitarian, inclusive and people-centric society, without leaving anyone behind.

The transformation toward a more egalitarian society puts the onus on citizens, companies, associations, governments who, through small gestures and an open attitude to transformation, will achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals as a positive legacy for generations to come.

The Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona, through its Corporate Social Responsibility policy, is adhered to the principles of the Global Pact (see link) that encourages compliance with the SDG by institutions and companies. In addition, it is working towards a new sustainable industrial culture that pursues zero waste and has obtained EMAS 2009 and ISO 14001 certifications as a result of its energy savings, good practices and environmental awareness.
