El Consorci and Barcelona
El Consorci de la Zona Franca enjoys a prominent role in boosting the economic potential of the city of Barcelona and its metropolitan area.
The Catalan capital is the core of the metropolitan region: 2,500 km2, and about 5,000,000 people, 10% of the Spanish population. Its dynamic and diversified economy accounts for 19% of Spanish GDP and exports (Barcelona in figures).
El Consorci manages the great Zona Franca Industrial Estate — 4,700,000 m2 and 145 active companies — as a platform for business expansion in the metropolitan area. It is a global production platform whose industrial and logistics buildings are ideally located within easy access to the port, airport, international highways and the main freight railway station.
El Consorci is also a public property developer heavily active in the Barcelona area. In addition to developing offices and unique buildings that generate wealth and entrepreneurial activity, it regenerates urban areas to improve urban planning and quality of life for the city’s inhabitants.
El Consorci develops industrial and technological estates in Barcelona and beyond, and it also bolsters the local economy projection through world-class international business events, such as the Barcelona Meeting Point (BMP) real estate fair and the International Logistics and Material Handling Exhibition (SIL).
